FRED Shock Summary
The August 17 observations show a broadly stable administered-rate and unsecured overnight-rate structure alongside somewhat firmer secured funding and higher Treasury yields. EFFR and OBFR were unchanged at 3.63%, while IORB remained 3.65%. SOFR, however, rose 4 basis points to 3.66% from 3.62%. Because the main policy-linked and unsecured overnight rates did not move, the SOFR increase is better characterized from these data as a change within secured overnight funding conditions rather than evidence of a broad shift in the policy-rate complex.
Treasury yields moved higher across the supplied maturities, with the increase becoming larger farther out the curve. The 2-year yield rose 2 basis points to 4.19%, the 10-year rose 4 basis points to 4.72%, and the 30-year rose 6 basis points to 5.31%. Consistent with those changes, the 10-year-minus-2-year spread widened from 0.51 to 0.53 percentage point. The supplied curve therefore became modestly steeper, with longer maturities experiencing the larger yield increases.
The 10-year inflation-indexed Treasury yield increased 3 basis points to 2.44%, compared with a 4-basis-point increase in the nominal 10-year yield. The simple nominal-minus-real 10-year differential consequently edged from about 2.27 percentage points to about 2.28 percentage points. Within the limits of these observations, most of the nominal 10-year yield increase was matched by a rise in the real yield, while the nominal-real differential changed only slightly.
Corporate credit measures weakened modestly rather than abruptly. The broad investment-grade corporate option-adjusted spread widened 1 basis point to 0.81%, BBB widened 1 basis point to 0.99%, broad high yield widened 3 basis points to 2.70%, and BB widened 2 basis points to 1.59%. The CCC-and-lower spread increased 6 basis points to 10.18%, the largest absolute spread increase among the supplied credit categories. Moody’s seasoned Baa yield also rose 4 basis points to 6.41%. Taken together, the observations show modestly higher required yields and slightly wider credit compensation across quality tiers, with the lowest-rated segment retaining by far the widest spread level.
The combined FRED picture is therefore one of unchanged core overnight policy-linked rates, a temporary-looking divergence in which SOFR moved higher while EFFR and OBFR did not, higher Treasury yields led by the long end, mild curve steepening, and small but broad-based credit-spread widening. The movements are directionally coherent as a tightening in market yields and credit pricing, but their magnitudes are generally limited in the supplied one-observation comparison and do not by themselves establish a larger regime change or its cause.

Yahoo Shock Summary
The August 17 cross-asset observations were mixed rather than uniformly risk-on or risk-off. The strongest positive moves in the supplied set were BMNR at +3.60%, Bitcoin at +2.69%, Brent crude at +2.65%, WTI crude at +2.55%, ASML at +2.12%, DBC at +1.87%, and the CSI 300 at +1.61%. COIN also advanced 1.40%. At the same time, several large U.S. technology names declined: AMD fell 1.63%, Amazon 0.51%, AVGO 0.14%, and Apple 0.11%. This dispersion argues against describing the session as a simple broad equity rally.
Commodity-related assets were notably firm within the supplied universe. Brent rose from 88.52 to 90.87 and WTI from 82.40 to 84.50, gains of 2.65% and 2.55%, respectively. The broader DBC commodity ETF rose 1.87%. Because multiple commodity indicators moved in the same positive direction, the commodity complex displayed one of the clearest clusters of strength in this snapshot. The data alone do not identify the reason for that move.
China-related market pricing was also comparatively strong. The CSI 300 gained 1.61%, while USD/CNH was essentially unchanged at 6.74, with the recorded percentage change only -0.01%. Thus, the Chinese equity gain occurred without a meaningful same-observation move in the supplied offshore renminbi exchange rate. The U.S. Dollar Index was similarly little changed, slipping just 0.03% to 99.64. Taken together, the two supplied currency measures were effectively stable relative to the much larger changes in equities, commodities, and crypto-linked assets.
Technology performance was internally divided. ASML rose 2.12%, but AMD fell 1.63%, while Apple, Amazon, and Broadcom posted smaller declines. The available observations therefore do not support treating semiconductor or mega-cap technology exposure as a single directional trade for the session. ASML’s strength was substantial relative to the mild declines in several other large technology names, while AMD was the most pronounced decliner among the supplied equities.
Crypto-linked assets were positive. Bitcoin rose 2.69% to 64,506.25, although its comparison is against the August 16 close rather than the August 14 comparison used for most weekday-traded assets. COIN rose 1.40% and BMNR 3.60%. The common positive direction across these three observations indicates strength in the supplied crypto and crypto-sensitive group, while the differing comparison dates mean Bitcoin’s percentage move should not be treated as perfectly synchronized with the equity moves.
AGG declined 0.24% to 97.25, a relatively small move compared with the larger gains in commodities, the CSI 300, Bitcoin, BMNR, and ASML. With the dollar index and USD/CNH nearly unchanged, the most distinctive feature of the cross-asset snapshot is dispersion: strength in commodities, Chinese equities, crypto-linked assets, and selected semiconductor exposure coexisted with weakness across several major U.S. technology stocks and a modest decline in aggregate bonds. The observations therefore describe selective rather than universal risk appetite, with no single supplied asset-class signal dominating every market segment.
