The August 26 GDPNow update placed the Atlanta Fed model’s estimate of third-quarter 2026 real GDP growth at 4.6 percent. Taken on its own, that is a strong contemporaneous reading of the pace of activity embedded in the data available to the model by that date. The figure should be interpreted as a nowcast rather than as an official Federal Reserve forecast or a judgmental policy assessment. GDPNow mechanically aggregates estimates of GDP components using incoming source data, and its estimate can change materially as additional releases arrive. The Atlanta Fed also emphasizes that the model is intended to approximate the forthcoming official GDP estimate and that forecast error can remain substantial even late in a quarter. Because the archived RSS item supplies only the 4.6 percent headline and the available page does not preserve an August 26 component decomposition, the defensible conclusion is limited: information incorporated through that update supported a comparatively rapid Q3 growth estimate, but the item alone does not establish which expenditure components generated the reading or whether the estimate would persist through subsequent updates. FRED Shock Summary

The August 26 observations show a largely stable overnight-rate complex alongside a modest upward move in Treasury yields and slightly tighter corporate credit spreads. SOFR declined 2 basis points to 3.64 percent, while EFFR and OBFR were unchanged at 3.63 percent and IORB remained at 3.65 percent. Consequently, the SOFR-EFFR differential narrowed from 3 basis points to 1 basis point. AMERIBOR registered 3.68 percent, but with no prior local observation there is no basis in this packet for describing a change.

Treasury yields moved higher across the supplied maturities: the 2-year rose 2 basis points to 4.19 percent, the 10-year rose 2 basis points to 4.66 percent, and the 30-year rose 1 basis point to 5.18 percent. The 10-year-minus-2-year spread nevertheless remained unchanged at +47 basis points, so the move was close to parallel between those two maturities. The 10-year inflation-indexed yield also increased 2 basis points to 2.34 percent. Subtracting that real yield from the nominal 10-year yield gives an implied nominal-real gap of about 2.32 percentage points, unchanged from the previous observation because both series moved by the same amount.

Credit spreads tightened modestly. The broad investment-grade corporate OAS fell 1 basis point to 0.80 percent, BBB OAS fell 1 basis point to 0.99 percent, high-yield OAS fell 3 basis points to 2.67 percent, and BB high-yield OAS fell 2 basis points to 1.56 percent. These simultaneous declines indicate slightly narrower compensation over benchmark rates across the supplied credit measures, with the larger daily compression occurring in high yield. Federal Reserve total assets declined by $14.787 billion from the prior Wednesday, from $6.745699 trillion to $6.730912 trillion, a decrease of about 0.22 percent. Overall, the deterministic snapshot combines stable overnight funding benchmarks, somewhat higher Treasury yields, unchanged 2s10s curve slope, modestly tighter credit spreads, and a small weekly decline in the Federal Reserve balance-sheet measure.

Yahoo Shock Summary

The August 26 cross-asset snapshot was mixed rather than uniformly risk-on or risk-off. The CSI 300 gained 0.85 percent, while the supplied large technology names were divided: Apple rose 1.15 percent, AMD 0.37 percent, and ASML 0.08 percent, whereas Amazon fell 0.30 percent and Broadcom declined 0.32 percent. The dispersion means the equity observations do not support describing the session as a synchronized technology move. Apple was the strongest gainer among the listed large-cap technology names, while the CSI 300 also posted a material positive close.

Crypto-linked observations were notably divergent. Bitcoin increased 0.59 percent to $79,027.42 and BMNR rose 0.36 percent, but Coinbase fell 2.87 percent, the largest absolute percentage move among the supplied instruments. The data therefore show that a positive Bitcoin close did not translate uniformly into gains among the listed crypto-sensitive equities.

Commodity signals were also internally mixed. Brent crude declined 0.84 percent and WTI declined 0.16 percent, but the diversified DBC commodity fund gained 0.23 percent. The larger fall in Brent than WTI also implies that their quoted price differential narrowed on the day. The U.S. Dollar Index gained 0.25 percent, while USD/CNH was unchanged at the displayed precision of 6.72, so broader dollar appreciation in the basket measure was not accompanied by a visible change in the offshore-renminbi quote in this dataset.

The U.S. aggregate bond ETF AGG declined 0.15 percent. Taken strictly within the supplied Yahoo observations, the day’s defining feature is cross-sectional dispersion: Chinese equities and several technology and digital-asset exposures advanced, some major technology and crypto-linked equities declined, crude oil weakened, the broader commodity basket edged higher, the dollar basket strengthened, and aggregate bonds slipped. No single common directional factor is demonstrated by these prices alone.
