FRED Shock Summary

The lagged FRED observations show a clear separation between stable overnight policy-linked rates and a sizable upward move in Treasury yields. EFFR and OBFR were unchanged at 3.63% on September 10, while IORB remained 3.65% through September 14. SOFR edged down 2 basis points to 3.62%. AMERIBOR moved in the opposite direction by 1 basis point to 3.68%. Taken together, these observations indicate little day-to-day movement in the core overnight funding complex represented here, with only small instrument-specific changes around the prevailing short-rate level.

Treasury yields moved much more sharply. The 2-year constant-maturity yield rose 13 basis points to 4.56%, the 10-year rose 12 basis points to 4.95%, and the 30-year rose 9 basis points to 5.37% between September 9 and September 10. The increase therefore extended across the curve, with the largest listed change at the 2-year point and progressively smaller increases at 10 and 30 years. The 10-year inflation-indexed Treasury yield also rose, by 9 basis points to 2.55%. This means that a substantial portion of the observed nominal 10-year yield increase coincided with a higher real yield in the supplied data rather than appearing solely as a change in the nominal-real gap.

The 10-year-minus-2-year spread subsequently narrowed from 0.39 percentage point on September 10 to 0.33 on September 11. Because the individual 2-year and 10-year observations supplied for September 10 already showed large increases, the later spread reading indicates a flatter 2s10s relationship at the next available observation. The provided series remain positively sloped on this measure, but less so than one day earlier.

Corporate credit spreads were essentially unchanged to slightly tighter. The broad investment-grade corporate OAS declined 1 basis point to 0.80%, the BBB OAS declined 1 basis point to 0.98%, and high-yield OAS declined 1 basis point to 2.70%. Those small spread moves stand in contrast to the much larger increases in Treasury yields. Within this snapshot, therefore, the principal fixed-income movement was in underlying government yields rather than a broad widening of the listed corporate risk spreads.

The Chicago Fed National Financial Conditions Index was unchanged at -0.56 between August 28 and September 4. The supplied observations therefore show no weekly change in that aggregate financial-conditions measure. Federal Reserve total assets increased from $6.737204 trillion on September 2 to $6.740619 trillion on September 9, a rise of about $3.415 billion, or roughly 0.05%. Relative to the size of the balance sheet, that was a small weekly increase.

Overall, this deterministic snapshot combines stable administered and overnight rates, materially higher Treasury yields across 2- to 30-year maturities, a higher 10-year real yield, slight compression in the supplied corporate credit spreads, unchanged NFCI, and a very small increase in Federal Reserve assets. The observations do not by themselves establish why these moves occurred, and their reference dates differ across series, so they are best read as a lagged cross-section rather than a synchronized same-day market state.

Yahoo Shock Summary

The September 17 completed-close observations show broadly positive performance across the listed equities and risk assets, while crude oil and the broad commodity ETF declined. The CSI 300 was nearly unchanged at +0.06%, and USD/CNH was flat at the displayed precision. Bitcoin rose 0.42%. In contrast, several U.S.-listed technology and crypto-linked equities posted substantially larger gains, producing a wide dispersion across the supplied universe.

AMD was the strongest mover in the set, rising 6.36% from 512.50 to 545.09. COIN followed at +5.75%, while BMNR advanced 4.73%. AVGO gained 2.29%, AMZN 2.13%, ASML 1.71%, AAPL 1.38%, and EEM 1.81%. The clustering of positive returns across semiconductor-related names, large technology companies, the emerging-markets ETF, and crypto-linked equities indicates that the day’s gains were not confined to a single listed security. At the same time, the magnitude of those gains varied considerably, with AMD, COIN, and BMNR far outpacing the more moderate advances in AAPL, ASML, and the CSI 300.

Bitcoin itself increased only 0.42%, substantially less than the gains in COIN and BMNR. On these observations alone, the equity instruments associated with crypto exposure moved much more than the underlying BTC-USD series over the same completed-close comparison. That is a descriptive relative-move observation rather than evidence of a causal relationship.

Bond exposure also strengthened: AGG rose 0.54% from 95.81 to 96.33. Its positive move occurred alongside gains in most of the listed equities, so this particular one-day cross-section was not characterized by a simple stocks-up, bonds-down pattern. EEM rose 1.81%, while the CSI 300 increased only 0.06%, highlighting a sizable difference between the two supplied emerging-market-related exposures rather than a uniform regional move.

Energy and broad commodities were the principal declining areas in the set. Brent crude futures fell 0.95% to 104.82, WTI crude futures declined 0.51% to 101.91, and DBC slipped 0.33% to 33.05. Brent therefore fell more than WTI in percentage terms in the supplied session. These declines contrast with the positive returns in most equities, AGG, EEM, and Bitcoin.

USD/CNH closed at 6.71 on both September 16 and September 17 at the displayed precision, implying no measurable day-over-day change in the provided data. The CSI 300 similarly showed only a marginal increase. For both 000300.SS and BTC-USD, the September 18 UTC-day rows were explicitly excluded as provisional, so the analysis uses September 17 as the latest completed observation and does not infer anything from the incomplete September 18 data.

Overall, the supplied completed-close data describe a session with strong gains concentrated in several technology and crypto-linked equities, moderate gains in other large-cap technology names and EEM, a small positive move in AGG and Bitcoin, little change in the CSI 300 and USD/CNH, and declines in crude oil and the broader commodity ETF. The data establish the direction and magnitude of these one-session moves but do not, on their own, identify the causes behind them or support conclusions about subsequent market performance.
